How to use a reel to reel as a tape delay

Any reel-to-reel that lets you set up a feedback loop, and then use the tape as a monitor source can be used as a stand-alone tape delay. I use an Akai GX4000. The only drawback is that your delay time is fixed to whatever speed your motor can run at.

dbx Tape Noise Reduction – demonstration

The effect of a dbx 224 tape noise reduction unit is demonstrated on an Akai 1730-SS reel to reel machine. An 808 drum beat from an MPC 2000XL provides the source material. While the overall effect is subtle, the hiss reduction is drastic (use headphones or a good set of speakers for full effect). You can also learn how to spool 1/4″ tape onto the reels of a tape machine by watching, or just jam some funky beats.

Akai X-1810

Just testing out a 4-track reel-to-reel that I bought today for .60. Featuring a local 1984 recording by The Mynx. I believe the machine was first made around 1973-74. For what it is and the condition it is in, it was a steal!

My 1972 Akai 4000DS MK-II Tape Recorder part 1

In Wide-Screen HD (where available) Mum got this for me from eBay for Christmas, I’ve seen a couple of these on YouTube, but no-one really has done a good presentation of one, so here’s mine. ere i explain the parts, the Sound on Sound and the 3 Head System. I sound a bit strange, I was tired and was reading from the “Script” I wrote for this video. I don’t think I sound like me when i do it this way, so next time I’ll just go back to doing the videos the way I normally do them.
