An Unexpected Recording on a Penncrest rim-drive reel-to-reel tape recorder portable.

This is a rather humerous recording made on this recorder back in the day. I had to do lots of cleaning and lubrication to get this machine up and running, because battery corrosion had messed up some bearings and moving parts.

The Mayfair FT-303 capstan drive portable reel-to-reel…

Yes, a classic! A LOT of work I did to fix this, I replaced all the electrylitic capacitors, but still didn’t fix a weak amp. I replaced a bad transistor and it fixed the amp. I also replaced the belt, as it was LOOSE. I re-did a spring for the take-up reel idler and lubricated the spinning parts with 3-in-1 oil. DC bias on this one, but surprizingly good for DC bias and the S sounds normal.

Penncrest 6437-1 reel-to-reel deck.

Easy fixes, and works fully. It came out a console.

Four portable reel-to-reels have one tape going through all of them! Two are capstan drive, two are rim drive. The whole situation is quite noisy and LOUD!! CRAZY and INSANE! reel-to-reel at the state of total chaos!
