Vintage Roberts 1630 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder demonstration
For those of you who miss the sound of those old tape recorders…Here we have a Roberts 1630 reel to reel recorder. This is the oldest tape recorder in the collection. This is a pure analog recorder, using vaccum tubes. For this reason it is always best practice to let these units “warm up” before using. I believe these units were manufactured around the early to mid 60s. The song you hear is realtime playback from the deck, and the sound is purely authentic to this machine and not an overdub. The sound was taken from the line outputs. This is a treat for anyone who loves the unique sound of these old machines and the imperfect perfection of analog tape
. The tape used in the recording is BASF LGR – 50 – Broadcast grade. Enjoy

Tandberg Model 64 Reel to Reel recorder
I just acquired this Tandberg from a friend who gave it to me so it would have a good home. I cleaned 22 years of dust off of it by his calculation and fired it up slowly through a variac. Here is the result. I have not done anything internal to it as of yet, but it deserves a full restoration if I can find new heads and a new pinch roller. The music you hear is by a friend of mine.. The band is Kimmer Rowe.. It was recorded in my studio. (therefore I have a right to upload it on youtube!) Buy his music on I-Tunes!!
