Akai X-1810
Just testing out a 4-track reel-to-reel that I bought today for .60. Featuring a local 1984 recording by The Mynx. I believe the machine was first made around 1973-74. For what it is and the condition it is in, it was a steal!

Brand Nubian – Don’t Let It Go To Your Head
From 1998 Album: “The Foundation”….. Lord Jamar’s Myspace: www.myspace.com Sadat X’s Myspace: www.myspace.com Grand Puba’s Myspace: www.myspace.com Brand Nubian is a hip hop group from New Rochelle, New York, consisting of three rappers: Grand Puba (born Maxwell Dixon, March 4, 1966[citation needed]), Sadat X (formerly Derek X, born Derek Murphy) and Lord Jamar (born Lorenzo Dechalus, on September 17, 1968), and two DJs: DJ Alamo and DJ Sincere. Their debut album One For All is one of the more popular and acclaimed alternative hip hop albums of the 1990s, known for socially conscious and politically charged content inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Brand Nubian formed in 1986 after Grand Puba’s original group, Masters of Ceremony, split up. Its first single, “Brand Nubian,” was released in 1986. Signed to Elektra Records by A&R man Dante Ross, its debut album, One For All, was released in 1990. Generally acclaimed, the album drew fire for militant Five-Percenter rhetoric on tracks such as “Drop the Bomb” and “Wake Up.” The controversy helped sales, though the album was still not a great commercial success. To date, the album has sold 350000 units. A version of the Fab Five Freddy-directed video for the single “Wake Up,” featuring a Black man in white-face makeup, was also banned from MTV. On MTV and from official WEA sources, this image was replaced by a Baptist preacher. The singles “Slow Down,” “All for One,” and “Wake Up” all became hits on …
EXTREME HIPSTER TIME feat. ARCADE FIRE
The ONLY way to listen to music is with reel-to-reel. Trust me, I’m a hipster. I spend like 15.260 hours a day researching this stuff. Don’t even talk to me about Ipods,.way too mainstream for me Think your VINYL Suburbs album is hot stuff?? Wait until you hear it on reel to reel playing at 7 1/4 IPS (way better than any 1 3/8 IPS cassette tape) I’m gonna sit and chill with Arcade Fire…
Jamie Principle – Waiting On My Angel (House)
Persona Records (Chicago,Ill) 1985 Club Mix Scattered among the classic productions of the mid-’80s Chicago house scene are those of Jamie Principle, the first to record song-based house music and the closest to a songwriter in the entire community. Principle never received his proper respect, since many of his best singles were only released years after their (usually ecstatic) introduction on the Chicago club-scene. Also, the balance of input between Principle and producer Frankie Knuckles has never been defined, resulting in singles credited to “Frankie Knuckles Presents,” “A Frankie Knuckles Production” or occasionally just “Frankie Knuckles” instead of what should perhaps have been acknowledged as Principle co-productions. He was born Byron Walton on Chicago’s south side, and early on differed from the majority of future house producers by gaining inspiration from a novel group of artists: David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Prince and Human League instead of the almost requisite mixture of Parliament/Funkadelic and obscure disco. He played drums and clarinet as part of a band while attending church, and decided to try making music on his own by 1980. With a synthesizer and his own live drum accompaniment, Principle began writing songs and later bought a four-track recorder to set them down on tape. A mutual friend, José Gomez, introduced his recordings to the don of Chicago DJs, Frankie Knuckles, and Knuckles began dropping Principle songs — still on reel-to-reel tape …
Little sir echo by Marty Gold
This is from a collection of pre recorded reel to reel tapes I bought on Ebay. This one is called Stereo Action on the RCA Victor Label. Recorded in 1961 this is a 4 track tape at 7.5 ips. Great stereo sound and crystal clear highs. I love vinyl recordings but they just cant match the clear natural audio and noise free sound of reel to reel tape. This album is very good for stereo demonstration so I will put up more songs as I have time. I hope you enjoy the sound quality. Played on the Teac A-3340 Recorder directly into the computer.
Music on the Philips N7150 reel-to-reel!
So here were are with a bit of a “back to the roots” video
Analogue Tape Glove v1
This interactive sound installation deals with exploring the physical connection between people and technology. A tangible user interface, taking the form of a glove is worn by the participant as they are invited to interact with an analogue tape surface. As the glove comes in contact with the tape, sound is generated and can be manipulated via touch and movement. This piece intends to explore the somewhat obsolete medium of tape through a playful and sonically interesting experience, appealing to a wide audience. the pre-recorded sound on the tape is a random collage of compiled material including a range of musical styles & found recordings. This piece is informed by works such as Nam June Paiks Random Access Music and Stockhausens Tape experimentations as well as the notion of using analogue tape as an instrument.
