1984 Medley of Music Mix
A mix of songs from 1984. I mixed this in 1986 and recently came across it. I am sorry about the quality and speed, I digitized it from an old cassette. It was originally mixed onto reel to reel, but i don’t have a working deck at the moment. I used my 2 Technics 1200mk2 turntables and splicing the tape on the reel to reel.
Some Vintage 4 track tape recorders, Grundig Telefunken etc.
including a few interesting facts about analogue tape recorders in general.with background music.
WONDERFUL LIFE – BLACK – (1987)
Black is the musical vehicle for British singer-songwriter Colin Vearncombe (born 26 May 1962, Liverpool, England). Career BlackBlack’s first release was “Human Features” on Rox Records in 1981. This was followed by another independent release in 1982 “More Than The Sun” (Wonderful World Of Records), after which Black was signed by WEA Records. In 1982 they joined pop band The Thompson Twins on tour for the ‘Quick Step and Side Kick’ tour, which made their name with the live sound of synth/percussion/guitar and the use of reel to reel tapes during their live performances. The first release for WEA was “Hey Presto” (1984), which got them noticed outside the UK: the video for this track featured on the satellite music channel Music Box, and the single was released in Australia. The second WEA single was a re-recording of “More Than The Sun”. After this, Black was dropped from the record label. During this period, the band also included producer Dave Dix. 1985 was a gloomy year for Vearncombe, causing him to write the ironically entitled minor key song “Wonderful Life”. Released independently at first, this track got Black noticed by A&M Records who signed Vearncombe and launched his international career. At first, the singles “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “Sweetest Smile” were moderately successful in the UK alone, but the third single, a re-release of “Wonderful Life”, was a massive hit worldwide. The album of the same name, released in 1987, had similar success …
Imaani – Found My Light (The Layabouts Vocal Mix)
‘FOUND MY LIGHT’ is the stunning debut REEL PEOPLE MUSIC release for one of the UK’s most treasured voices, IMAANI. Remixed by THE LAYABOUTS, ‘FOUND MY LIGHT’ is a heart felt song, written about the joy that motherhood has brought to her life. IMAANI’s career has been quite a journey for this country girl from Derby who jumped on a train to London at the age of 19 and never looked back. Nurtured by the legendary JOCELYN BROWN, IMAANI’s talent was soon discovered with cousins CARLEEN & JHELISA ANDERSON & TALKIN LOUD’s URBAN SPECIES all taking her on tour. British Soul Institution INCOGNITO was IMAANI’s next port of call as she became a permanent fixture on there perpetual live show and on there recording’s as she featured on the albums ‘BENEATH THE SURFACE’, ‘ADVENTURES IN BLACK SUNSHINE’, ‘BEES + THINGS + FLOWERS’ & ‘ELEVEN’. Another highlight and in her own words ‘the biggest night of my life’ saw IMAANI perform to well over 100 million people and finish second in the 1998 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST. In recent years, IMAANI has formed a stirring partnership with London House music crew COPYRIGHT, delivering the anthems ‘WIZEMAN’, ‘BRING ME LOVE’ & most recently ‘NOBODY’, all on DEFECTED RECORDS. Forthcoming in 2011 is a 3 track EP which includes production by REEL PEOPLE and also MATT COOPER (INCOGNITO/OUTSIDE). Check out our website www.reelpeoplemusic.co.uk
