Old 1963 Radio Recording I found
If you want to know what 60′s radio was like, play this. I was going through my Reel to Reel tapes, and I found this. I’m not quite sure if I got the year right, but I think that’s what I heard on the other side of the tape. I’ve had to cut the music short to avoid copyright issues and get the video short enough for YouTube. The quality isn’t too good, there’s drop-outs and distortion in places. I don’t know who recorded it, or what machine they used, but I’m sure it was recorded in the US, so how it got here I don’t know. Most of my reel to reel tapes I got from the web, used, so maybe that explains it.

1948 AEG Magnetophon K8 tape recorder
Demo of my AEG K8 Magnetophon playing Flat Foot Sam by Elmon Mickle (a very rare Elko blues 45rpm by the way). This rare machine is in great working order and uses German Telefunken vacuum tubes (EF12, EF14 etc.). It runs at 76cm/s (30ips) and is full track mono. I’m looking for old AEG Magnetophon machines, if you have one please let me know.
Vintage Roberts 1630 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder demonstration
For those of you who miss the sound of those old tape recorders…Here we have a Roberts 1630 reel to reel recorder. This is the oldest tape recorder in the collection. This is a pure analog recorder, using vaccum tubes. For this reason it is always best practice to let these units “warm up” before using. I believe these units were manufactured around the early to mid 60s. The song you hear is realtime playback from the deck, and the sound is purely authentic to this machine and not an overdub. The sound was taken from the line outputs. This is a treat for anyone who loves the unique sound of these old machines and the imperfect perfection of analog tape
. The tape used in the recording is BASF LGR – 50 – Broadcast grade. Enjoy
