Viking 86 Tube Reel To Reel.mpg

This 1960 Viking Reel to Reel Tape Recorder is a six-valve vacuum tube powered model. It is missing the felt pads that press the tape onto the heads in playback mode. This video demonstrates how the sound is muffled and barely audible until I touch two Q-tips down against the running tape, making a solid contact with the two stereo tape heads. It should work perfectly once some new pads are attached! For more retro stereo fun: atomicspacejunk.com

Digital reel to reels, Sony PCM3324, K8113, PCM3202 – Studer D820X, Mitsubishi X-86

I have spent some time getting my PCM3324 to work, it isn’t perfect but its running, I also started work on the Mitsubishi X-86 which I worked out in a matter of hours, the Studer D820X is still faulty and I have a good idea what it is but I need a logic analyzer to really be able to see. Every digital reel to reel I have owned either does not work, or only half works, a lot of time and effort goes into them to make them work again.
