How to integrate analog tape with your DAW Part 2

Tape, Digitize, Align! TaDA: it’s analog magic for your DAW. This video shows how you can integrate your analog tape deck with your digital audio workstation and benefit from the sonic bliss of tape, latency free in the digital realm. Enjoy the best features of tape (its sound) and the best features of computer recording (digital editing, precise punch-ins, non-linear approach, unlimited multiple takes) at the same time. You can even record to multiple tape decks and the DAW simultaneously without having to manual align tracks for synchronization. This video was created in a couple of hours at Little Red Wagon Studios by Brad McGowan and Ken Mahru to demonstrate the power of the system. Please try it out for yourself and give us some feedback. We hope to make a better video in the near feature with improved sound and camera work. This is the second of two videos.

Bill Haley and his Comets – Razzle Dazzle – Rare Tape – Teac X3 Reel to Reel

My Teac X3 4 track reel to reel deck playing an old recording (possibly 1950′s?) of Bill Haley’s 1955 hit ‘Razzle Dazzle’. It was recorded via sound card and then sync’d to the video. I would have used my monster deck (TASCAM 32-2) but it didn’t go down to 3 3/4 IPS and four track, I had recently finished servicing this deck and it is a great little machine with a great smooth sound and can go all the way up to 28KHz (+-3dB). As far as I can tell it was recorded using parallel tracks but there is no apparent stereo separation. Sorry about the low video quality but I did not have a HD camcorder to hand. I bought this tape in a job lot from eBay and I have never heard this recording of this song before, I think it might be quite rare and sounds as if it was recorded from the radio (it sounds like medium wave to me) and might be live. The rest of the tape contains mains hum and a low level recording of some old radio show. An interesting piece of history. No copyright infringement intended.
