YouTube’s thumbs-up button changes to Google’s +1 button [The Reel Web #31]

YouTube is changing again! This time the thumbs-up “like” button may be changing to Google’s +1 button. It hasn’t been officially verified, but some people have posted screenshots of it and the move seems to make sense as Google pushes to integrate YouTube with Google Plus more and more. We also talk about some of the other recent changes at YouTube, including the stats ComScore reported that seem to agree with what YouTube reported last week: viewers are watching 60% more video now than they did in January! Since we doubted those statistics from YouTube, it seems to be more likely to be true if third-party researches are coming to the same conclusion. Some of our discussion isn’t necessarily about YouTube specifically, but about online video in general, including how to monetize many videos at once, what to do if your video goes viral, and how online video will play a major role in political campaigns this year, especially Obama’s. Radiophonic Music Video: Tros Y Gareg

This song was recorded in the 1960s by John Baker of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop using modified natural and electronic sounds. Basically, he recorded every sound on reel-to-reel tape, played it at the wrong speed to get all of the right notes, and cut them together to make a song! For more information about this futuristic, yet retro genre, search for “The Alchemists of Sound Documentary.” The genre is most widely known for the original Doctor Who theme song by Delia Derbyshire and Ron Grainer. The style of video editing was inspired by famous YouTuber MysteryGuitarMan. The people in this video are me (Vince), my classmates Josh (bottle), Myron (guitar), and my then girlfriend Kayla (flute). My sister Lilly’s head also appears in some of the flute notes – she was peeking from behind the stairs. ####Buy this song on CD#### www.amazon.com www.trunkrecords.com ########Disclaimer######## By making this school project, the only thing I earned was an A+. If you feel that this infringes your copyright, just leave a comment or message me and I will immediately take the video down.

The iPad is changing online video consumption [The Reel Web]

The third generation iPad has sold by the millions and is changing how people consume online video, thanks to its 4G connectivity and blazing fast Internet speeds. People are using the iPad to watch more online video than they do on their desktops during the evening thanks to its nice HD display. But along with this comes a downside in people burning through their data quota much faster than before and some people are feeling like they can’t watch video on their iPads anymore. This obviously creates a problem for us, as creators, and for Verizon and AT&T who want us to use more of their brand new speedy networks, not less. We talk a little bit about this and also YouTube’s new embed player and the changes it makes along with YouTube’s new “improve this video” feature that makes color correction, stabilization, and more accessible with only a few clicks.
